Audi 100 Sedan, A/C & Wet Foot Problems
Q: I have an '89 Audi
100 Sedan. The A/C doesn't get quite cool enough even when cranked to
the max. Also, there is a water discharge from under the dash onto the
driver's right foot and/or the passenger's left foot when the A/C is on.
My mechanic can't figure it out. What could be the problem?...Joseph
A: The
water leaking from under the dash is likely due to a blocked or restricted
water drain. The A/C system removes moisture from the air before it enters
the passenger compartment. This process creates a surprising amount of
water and this water must be directed, via drains, out of the vehicle.
Usually leaves and debris are the culprit for restricting the A/C system
drain. Have the drains cleared and your feet will probably stay dry. As
for the poor cooling by the A/C system, it's usually caused by a low charge
of refrigerant. The fix, requires re-charging the system with the appropriate
amount of refrigerant.
