‘93 Ford
Escort, Overheated Repairs
Q: My ‘93 Ford Escort overheats if idling too long. The cooling
fan will not come on and it is not a fan motor or a relay problem. Two
mechanics say its electrical. The ground was lost somewhere. One says
it will take hours to locate the problem, and labor alone will cost hundreds
of dollars. The other laughed at this and said he can find it and fix
it in minutes by putting in a new ground. Who's right? Also the clock
does not work, but comes on occasionally for a few minutes. Any connection?
A: The
clock wiring is not related to the cooling fan. ALLDATA Information System
shows the ground for the cooling fan motor to be located on the left front
of the vehicle near the left headlight. I would suggest checking there
first. If the connection is good, go with technician B’s answer and run
a new ground wire.
