'01 Ford Ranger, Tire Cupping
Q:
I own a
01 Ford Ranger with only 25k miles on it. The tires on the front
are cupping badly. Ive been told to get new shocks. Could they be
bad already? Could it be something else?

A:
It is possible that
the front shocks have a problem, but I have some other questions. How
often have you had the tires rotated and the balanced checked? Pick-up
trucks are more prone to tire problems if not maintained regularly. What
I mean by that is regular tire rotation and checking of tire balance.
Of course, regular checking and maintaining of tire air pressure is important
as well. This all leads to the next question. Who has been servicing your
vehicle? If the front tires were starting to wear it should have been
brought to your attention sooner. Im sure the tires were not just
suddenly cupped at 25k. It does take time for that type of wear to occur.
Shocks maybe, but Id suggest following the recommended maintenance
in the Owners Manual more closely.
