'98 Ford Taurus, Singing from the Rear End
Q:
I have a 98 Ford
Taurus that has what I would call a "singing" noise from the
right rear (passenger side) when I make left turns. No sound comes from
the left side when turning right. Could this be a caliper or bearing issue?
Robert
A:
Can you name that tune?
I think you should stop by a repair facility and have the right rear wheel
inspected. There are a couple of thoughts that come to mind that may cause
the song youre hearing from the rear of your vehicle. If you have
disc brakes, it may be the warning bar starting to hit on the brake rotor.
The warning bars on disc brake pads can start their song of warning at
the oddest times and can seem to be totally unrelated to brake operation.
It could be a wheel bearing issue and have nothing to do with the brakes.
Youve pin the noise to just one wheel and that it is consistent,
get it checked before for the song turns into a costly tune.
