‘96 Ford Taurus GL, No Start Alarm
Q: The alarm on my’96 Ford Taurus GL is permanently on and won't shut off. I tried the clicker on the key ring but that is not working. I went to a Ford dealership and they said I could bring it in but I can't get the car started with the alarm on. Besides I don't know what the cost will be.
A:
That’s the problem with technology there is no magic wand that makes a red flag pop up showing what part is broken. There’s just no way to tell what the cost of the repair will be until diagnosis is performed. The anti-theft system in your vehicle, if factory installed, is integrated into the vehicle’s electronics. This means there is more than one computer involved with an assortment of switches, relays and other fun electronic type components. I might suggest first replacing the battery in your remote. Then sit in your car and with the key, turn the ignition switch from off to on 5 times in ten seconds. This should cause the door locks to unlock. Press any button on the remote and the doors should lock. If the door locks don’t work wait a few seconds and then press the button again. Once the door locks respond, turn the ignition switch off and wait a few seconds. The doors should lock and unlock on their own. If this happens the alarm should deactivate and the remote should function as normal. If not a tow truck will be taking your vehicle to the repair shop.
