Ford Explorer Sport, Big Tire Problems
Q:
Ive bought some 20-inch rims for my 99 Ford
Explorer Sport. So far 2 studs in both back tires have broken
off and every time I drive it sounds like the springs are
giving in. Someone told me that instead of having closed
lugs on the tires, put on open lugs so they can fit tightly.
I just wanted to know if I am going in the right direction
by just needing to put open lugs on the tires or if I should
just take them off and try a smaller size. Help me before
all my studs break.

A:
Custom
wheels do require special lug nuts to bolt to the vehicle
correctly. Using the wrong lug nuts will cause damage to
the vehicle, rims and to others if the wheel should break
away from the vehicle. The store that you bought the rims
from will have the correct lug nut application information.
If you bought the rims in a private sale then you should
locate the nearest dealer for that rim manufacturer and
get the right lug nuts. If you drive too long with the wrong
lug nuts youll have a set of 4 custom 20-inch water
hose holders.
