`99 Ford Taurus, Running Hot
Q:
My ’99 Ford Taurus was running hot. The cylinder heads were removed and checked for cracks and found to be okay. Also the coolant reservoir had a large crack in it, it was replaced. But when you run the car hard for a little while, water is forced back out of the coolant reservoir. What can be causing that?
A:
As long as the repairs performed were done correctly, I would suggest inspecting the radiator. The harder an engine works the more heat it makes. A 60 MPH wind through the radiator is not enough to properly cool an engine if the radiator core is restricted or blocked. Cooling system service/maintenance is often overlooked. The outside of the radiator may look great, but the internals of the radiator pay the price with core blocking deposits from bad coolant. If you run your vehicle too long with a bad radiator, you’ll be pulling those cylinder heads again for practice.
