Honda Accord. Blinking Shift Light
Q: The sport shift light on my ‘90 Honda Accord has started blinking
intermittently, whether or not the sports shift is engaged. This morning
the speedometer stopped registering. A mechanic did an electrical code
diagnosis with no results, and drove the car without either problem appearing.
A: In
your case the flashing ‘S’ is the vehicle’s automatic transmission computer
complaining about a problem. This is not true with all Honda’s, some flash
the ‘D4’ light instead. Have your tech check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes
(DTC’s) for the automatic transmission’s computer. Because the speedometer
has failed it is likely that the computer is going to provide a DTC for
a failing or failed vehicle speed sensor. The computer saw the problem
coming and was try to warning you in advance.
