97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Stalling Problems
Q:
My ‘97 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 litre engine, 2wd with 90k miles has a stalling problem. At all speeds it just dies. Sometimes it will fight it for a few seconds then recover but most of the time it just dies. When it isn't dying it runs great. You can tell when it's about to die though. It will have a lack of power just before, except in the morning, sometimes it will die shortly after you start it or won't start at all though. Most times it has the problem when it's hot though. I've replaced the entire first stage ignition, TPS, and all the ground wires to the computer and wiring harness including the battery cables. What else do you think it could be?

A:
Check the computer for a possible crankshaft position sensor code. This code can be in 3 files; code history, pending codes or current codes. If a crankshaft position sensor code is found in any of these files, I would suggest checking that sensor out very closely. This sensor is known for its bizarre behavior when starting to fail. It is rare that the check engine light will be on due to this sensor failure, but the code is often found with the problems you’re describing.
