Nissan Maxima, Cooling Fan Problems
Q: I have an ‘87 Nissan Maxima and I thought
it is normal for the cooling fan to run after the car has stopped, but
the fan just keeps on running. So the next day the battery was dead (from
the fan is my guess). Could you tell me what might cause this? I looked
on your FAQ and found out about fans that don't work, mine overworks.....

A: Your
Nissan is equipped with 2 cooling fans and 3 relays to operate these cooling
fans. It’s likely that one of the relays is sticking on. On the left front
of the vehicle near the battery is a bank of relays. The 3 cooling fan
relays are side by side and have a blue dot in the top of the relay. The
next time you shut your vehicle off and the cooling fan or fans are still
running, unplug the relays and plug them back in one at a time until the
fans stop. When the fans do stop you’ve likely found the offending relay.
If so the fix is a new relay.
